I am writing to you to request a donation to support the Latino Community Center’s Fiesta Boricua, a celebration of Puerto Rican culture, in this, the festival’s sixth year.

Fiesta Boricua has been successfully run by the Latino Community Center for the past five years. The first year, the free festival was held at 12th and Mitchell, and was attended by about 1,500 people. The second year, it was held at 10th and Mitchell, and attracted between 2,500 and 3,000 people. The third year, it took place in Humboldt Park and police estimated that about 5,000 people attended. The fourth year, the festival moved to Veteran’s park at the lake front, and attendance doubled to 10,000 people. Last year, the festival was held at Milwaukee World Festival (Summerfest grounds).

Each year, the festival has taken place without incident, involving people of all ages and ethnicities who are drawn to experience the unique excitement and beauty of Puerto Rican food, music, and culture. In 2007, we feel the festival could draw as many as 15,000 people in view of the fact that it will possibly return to Milwaukee World Festival grounds (Summerfest).

The event will take place the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, running from noon to midnight. The festival will feature various local and national entertainment acts; we will have merchandise, food, beverage, and alcohol vendors as well as an educational booth on Puerto Rican culture.

The funds raised will be utilized to support positive youth development programs for over 4,000 youth living in the neighborhood near the center, one of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in the city of Milwaukee. We use unique methods of outreach that help youth residing on Milwaukee’s near south side learn to become contributing members of society. Our work takes a variety of forms -such as street outreach, in-school programs, and recreation- in order to reach all at-risk youth in the area, including gang members, young girls, out-of-school youth, and teenaged males.

As a sponsor of Fiesta Boricua 2007, your investment will expose your business or organization to an estimated 15,000 or more people within the Midwest including possible TV coverage, ads within local newspapers, and radio stations. Attached you will find a brochure outlining sponsorship benefits. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (414) 975-4421 or Cecil Negron at (414) 745-3501.

Thank you for your consideration,
